Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular dystrophies (MD) are a group of genetically inherited conditions that cause progressive muscle weakness and loss of muscle mass (wasting). It may affect one muscle group first and spread over time.
Symptoms
- Falling often
- Waddling gait
- Enlarged calf muscles
- A curved spine (scoliosis)
- Stiff muscles and muscle pain
- Swallowing or breathing problems
- Difficulty walking, running or jumping
Other signs include learning difficulties, delayed growth, or heart problems, such as arrhythmia and heart failure.
